The online workshop “Western blot – a technique possible to optimize” was conducted for researchers from The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center on the 14th of June by Dr. Joanna Porankiewicz Asplund, Agrisera Technical Support Manager. The participants were from different labs at Danforth center, namely the Allen Lab, Bart Lab, Carrington Lab, Eveland Lab, Gehan Lab, Mayer’s Lab, Nusinov Lab, Pandey Lab, Shah Lab, Slotkin Lab, Taylor Lab, Umen Lab, and Zhang Lab. All who attended had the possibility to get their questions about the Western blot technique answered, and obtain new insights about optimization of this complex technique. The workshop was hosted by the CSTM co-chairs and represented by Dr. Thiya Mukherjee. The workshop was two hours long, with a tea break and the possibility to participate in a quiz with prizes. Each attendee will receive a certificate of attendance, and is very welcome to contact Agrisera with any Western blot and antibody related questions in the future. Agrisera's Educational Posters and Western blot troubleshooting guide were offered to each participant. A recording of the workshop is available here. | Feedback from workshop participants: "Thank you very much for the excellent workshop last week. I’ve never done protein work before, but I feel like I learned a lot from you and I’m much more confident to give it a try." "Thanks for the excellent talk and sharing your experience on Western. I found it very useful." |
Do not miss this promotion! From the 1st of July until the 30th of September, our very popular and well-published antibodies to proteins involved in photosynthesis are discounted by 10%.
Use the discount code Photo10 when ordering, and do not forget about requesting hard copies of the Agrisera Educational Posters with focus on photosynthesis. These were created together with scientists in the field, and are very appreciated by the community.

On the 8th of June, researchers from KBC (Chemical Biological Centre) at Umeå University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, gathered together with their families, in an informal setting, to enjoy a grill party and many activities for kids and families before the summer break. Agrisera was one of the companies that supported this nice event. We hope you all have a nice summer! |
Between the 8th and 9th of June, Msc. Fanny Högdahl and Dr. Joanna Porankiewicz Asplund participated in Pivotal Links, in Oxford, the UK. This is a global networking event, which, after a 2-year break due to the pandemic, gathered 120 participants from both research and IVD companies around the world. Networking with other companies, exchanging ideas, planning for future collaborations and presenting Agrisera were on the agenda. We were happy to meet Agrisera distributors Newmarket Scientific from the UK, Labclinics from Spain, Sanbio from The Netherlands, and Antibodies-online and Biozol from Germany. This is an event certainly worth attending! | Top right corner: Rick Bhatt and Magalie Dale (Newmarket Scientific), Joanna Porankiewicz Asplund, Fanny Högdahl (Agrisera), Bottom left corner: Fanny Högdahl, Joanna Porankiewicz Asplund (Agrisera), Neus Romo and Montse Gallardo (Labclinics) |
Our warmest congratulations to Dr. Valéria Nagy from Biological Research Centre, Szeged, Hungary, who was awarded the Agrisera Best Poster Prize, during the conference: Elevating Nordic algal biotechnology: from fundamental photosynthesis to industry, which took place between 8th and 10th of June at Biocity in Turku, Finland. Dr. Nagy's poster title was "Thin cell layer cultures of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii pgrl1 and pgr5 mutants perform enhanced H2 production at sunlight intensity”. Good luck with your research! We are awaiting your free antibody choice! |
The month of May was a busy month for us, with several visits and activities at Agrisera. Umeå University the following week. This event, which many attended, offered information on job possibilities at our company, a presentation of our organisation, a guided tour of our facilities, as well as conversations with our staff. Later the same month, Agrisera was visited by a group of final-year students from the science program at the local Maja Beskow secondary school. The students were shown our facilities, who we are, and what we do at Agrisera. We hope to have sparked their interest in pursuing science further, to eventually become our colleagues. Further, Agrisera CEO Erika Gelfgren, together with staff from our labs, attended the event "Job talk", held for students of Life Science and Biotechnology from Umeå University, where Agrisera, and future job possibilities at our company were presented. A big thank you to everyone who attended these events, visited us and showed interest in Agrisera! | In the beginning of May, Agrisera representatives were present at a "Work Fair" for students, together with 17 other Life Science companies from Umeå. We received a lot of interest, and arranged a visit at our facilities for students from Agrisera staff and facilitites. |
18th of May is The Fascination of Plants Day, celebrated worldwide with many activities. Agrisera prepared two quizzes; for the recipients of Agrisera's monthly newsletter (category 1) and for researchers who requested hard copies of Agrisera's Educational Posters (category 2), which we send worldwide, free of charge. The quizzes gained a lot of attention, and we thank everyone who participated! The winner in category 1 is Dr. Mercedes Roncel, from University of Seville, Spain. The winner in category 2 is Dr. Mohammed Anwar Ali from the Agricultural College, Bapatla.ANGRAU, India. The winners received a copy each of the book Photosynthesis - Solar Energy for Life by Dr. Dmitry Shevela, Prof. Lars Olof Björn, Prof. Govindjee. We hope you enjoyed our quiz! |
