Q: Antibody which I have purchased is lyophilized. How should I re-constitute it?

Antibodies in lyophilized format are very stable for storage and transportation. No heavey and expensive packages with dry ice are necessary and transportation can be done at ambient temperature. Below you will find the steps of re-constitution of lyophilized antibody back to the solution.

This procedure should be done before antibody is to be used. Upon antibody arrival to the lab, the tube with lyophilized powder is received, it can be stored at recommended temperature, until use. Usually at -20ºC.

    • Add the amount of sterile, distilled or deionized water, in the amount specified on the antibody tube.
    • Place the tube in 4ºC for 3 hours. Gently mix afterwards. Check for the presence of any undissolved particles by placing the tube against the light.
    • Gently vortex, avoiding foam generation.
    • Aliquote and store, according to instructions provided on antibody product information sheet.

Glycerol or any other substances should not be added unless it is specified on the product information sheet, which is provided together with the antibody and available online, on the specific antibody product page.

We recommend storing antibodies in lyophilized format upon arrival and re-constituting them just before use.

Properly lyophilized antibody looks like a very light powder, which can have different colour, depending if it is: serum (ligh pink), total IgG fraction (white) or antigen affinity purified antibody (white).
