Q: Is there any difference which alcohol is used for activation of PVDF membrane before the blotting of proteins to a membrane is done?

There are two alternatives, which offer different advantages and disadvantages:

    Methanol
More effective at activating the membrane before proteins transfer by blotting and facilitating efficient protein binding

    Ethanol
Less effective to activate a membrane for protein transfer using blotting.
Can be used if health hazard is a consideration.

The choice depends upon the objectives in the lab. Efficient protein transfer to a membrane is one of the key factors influencing final outcome in Western blot.
